Want to know what I have been up to lately? Check out Alex Marie, my muse of the moment. I discovered her last summer through her sister Christina.  When she showed up for a model’s call the first time around, I was extremely impressed with her poised, mature, and sophisticated demeanor, which is very rare to find in a 17-year-old these days.  So I gave her a chance on her first fashion catwalk as you can see from the photos above.  With very little coaching and guidance, she was a natural on the runway and the audience loved her flirty pin-up-like stage presence.

I love mentoring fresh young talents, showcasing them, and grooming them to succeed in whatever endeavors they are after.  And when I see talent, I can spot it immediately. That is why I want you to know Alex Marie!

Very much like Victoria Chang, whom I discovered back in 2007 when she was 16, I know I can groom Alex to be the next hot model in the DC area (and most likely beyond if she decides she wants that).  She was one of the crowd favorites at last year’s Fashion of Goodwill runway show and can you believe that she was only 17 then?

Alex Marie is a sweet and intelligent (3.8 GPA) young lady with many talents beyond modeling. I asked her to share with you a bit about herself below, especially about her animals since you know I am such an animal lover as well.

So keep an eye out for Alex Marie in the next 12 months as I take her under my wings. I am touched by her down-to-earth attitude and kindness towards others. That alone makes me want to help guide and mentor her even more.

“While I would love more than anything to model or act as a life career, I am going to college to study zoology. Animals have always been a big part of my life. Growing up on a small farm in the middle of the suburbs, I was privileged to be surrounded by wildlife from a very young age. People in my neighborhood recognized my family and I as the people they could go to to leave an injured or unwanted animal with. But between all the busy school activities and modeling gigs, I still make sure to find time to cook and bake for my family and friends, and sometimes pull out my sketch book for doodling.”  ~Alex Marie

Enjoy Alex’s latest Polished by tu-anh transformation below, inspired by one of my favorite bombshells, Jessica Rabbit.

P.S. Did I mention that she speaks, reads, and writes Japanese, too?

A Fashion Blast from the Past

DC Goodwill Fashion Show Photo Shoot 2008

This is from a video shoot we did where model Ashanti is playing the role of  Josephine Baker, American-born French dancer, singer, and actress during the 1920’s-1930’s.

Last week I shared with you a behind-the-scenes video of the 2010 DC Goodwill Fashion Show and today I am digging back even deeper in my video archive to share with you another look into what behind-the-scenes at one of my shows is like: fun, hard-working, and drama free!

It is hard to believe that this year marks six years since I styled, directed, and choreographed the 2008 Fashion of Goodwill show, which featured a Parisian theme and was held at the French Embassy in Washington, DC.  And what a night it was!  In the video, you can see a bit of the work that goes into a used wedding gown and what we needed to do to get it polished and ready to go on the runway so that it could be purchased afterwards in the pop-up retail shop.

Soon I will be hosting a Spring Trunk Show for Goodwill where every single piece will be hand-picked and selected by me and my team of stylists.  And all items will be sold for less than $100.  So save your money to shop then and help out a great mission!  Will keep you posted on the date.

It’s Time For New Clothes!

Backstage at the 2013 Fashion of Goodwill Runway Show

As you know, one of my goals before the end of 2013 was to declutter my office and everything in my life to welcome in 2014.  To my surprise, I found a fun video of a fashion show I produced for Goodwill of Greater Washington about 3 years ago at the French Embassy. I think you will enjoy watching what was going on back stage.  Basically a few minutes before every show, I like to loosen up the team and models so they are not as nervous.  I shot this video on my phone just minutes before they hit the runway in their fabulous Goodwill donations.

Watching this video reminded me that this is perfect timing for out with the old, in with the new.  So it’s time for you to get new clothes, new hair, new make up, and a new and more polished you!  To start, why don’t you go through your closet this weekend and take the things that you have not worn over a year or two and bring it to your nearest Goodwill donation center.  Anything that is too tight or ill-fitting, several years out of style, or otherwise not conducive to your polished look should no longer take space in your closet. Even though these items no longer work for you, they might work for someone else, plus when you donate to Goodwill you help provide training and employment to people in your area.

I hope you enjoy watching the video and if you need any advice on how to declutter your wardrobe, leave me a comment below or email me at tuanh@tu-anh.com.
